WRITING for COMPETITION
The focus of Writing for Competition is to complete submittable writings while increasing creative confidence in the writing process. Students will craft unique narratives that can be submitted within categories designated by competitions or publications.
For fiction categories attention will be given to plot, setting, theme, and conflict, as students practice the use of descriptive language and varieties of sentence structure. Characterization, narrative point-of-view, world-building, and different types of conflict will also be explored.
For non-fiction categories attention will be given to essay craft, rhetorical devices, research, and interviewing, as well as descriptive language and varieties of sentence structure.
Short works of fiction, drama, poetry, memoir or essay will be created, revised, and perfected. Student writings will be submitted for competition or publication by designated deadlines.
Individual sessions may be suggested, depending on the needs of the student.

Each student is unique and I welcome all skill levels. I design sessions based on students’ needs and I am responsive to the requests of parents. I will support classwork and provide supplemental materials when appropriate.
Before our first session I provide parents with an electronic Intake Form, so I can assess what you and your child require.
I create individual Google Classrooms for each student or group as a place to attach all assignments, readings, assessments, and secondary learning materials.
I create (and share with parents to view) a Google Spreadsheet for each student or group in order to report on progress and keep notes on each session. I am happy to consult with parents on a scheduled basis.
